Hey everyone sorry it’s been a while since my last post I've met a whole bunch of people of late and have neglected my blog. I went on a 3 day orientation that was held by the province for foreign teachers and was lucky enough to meet a bunch of new friends. I am so glad that I had a chance to go.
I know some of you know what a hookah lounge or hookah bar is but I must admit I didn’t. Although I’d seen a hookah before I had no idea what it was or what it was actually for. Just recently some of my new friends and I spend the evening in a nearby city called Ilsan. It’s right beside Goyang so it’s very easy to get to and there are lots of things to do there. After some very tasty Korean BBQ (more on that later) we headed over to a hookah lounge. A hookah is a really big bong like smoke pipe that you share with your friends. The lounge was pretty cool. Low light, relaxing music and a variety of drinks to choose from. They also had complimentary fruit…so you know it was fancy…right? The smoke is very mild and comes in a variety of flavours. You draw it in through a tube as if you were smoking a cigarette and everyone gets their own mouthpiece. We tried the watermelon and apple flavours and I was amazed at how good it tasted. I will admit, I was not expecting much but it was pretty cool. Oh, and in case you are wondering there are no after affects from the smoke…it’s just plain old fruit flavoured smoke.
So this is a typical hookah. If you click on the image it will enlarge and you can see what the different parts are and how it all works.
Oh and here is a link if you would like to build your very own hookah. I know you wont but check it out because it has some interesting basic info about them.
