Sinchon

Posted by Tony Rubino Friday, October 2, 2009

A few weeks back I got a chance to meet my co teacher John’s very good friend Leon who is also a teacher in elementary school.  We met up with him and my friend Andrew in a place called Sinchon which is in greater Seoul.  Sinchon is basically a university town.  It’s just packed with students and young people especially on the weekends.  John took me to see Yonsei University first and then we headed in to town for a stroll.

Here are a couple of Yonsei University pictures.  It has a very beautiful campus and is reminiscent of many North American schools.

Here are a couple of interesting shots from the streets of Sinchon.

And here are John (right) and Leon (left).  We were drinking a bowl of traditional Korean rice wine called cheongju.  If you can get past the colour and the fact that its a big thick it is actually quite good and does in fact taste very wine like.  I should also mention that when enjoying drink with others you must never pour your own beverage as it is very bad luck.  You must pour for your friends with your right hand doing the pouring and your left hand supporting your right holding it under the forearm…did that make sense?  Here is a link on drinking culture in Korea…that should clear things up.

More to come soon.
